Caring for Our Environment
Creation Matters
The Creation Matters group strives to become better stewards of God's creation. We meet regularly to share information on environmental issues and things we can do to live more lightly on the Earth. We engage with the broader St. Matthew’s community through activities such as the Blessing of the Bikes at our annual Earth Day service.
Creation Matters works with other groups to make St. Matthew’s a Green Church. The Greening Tree displayed at the front of the church tracks our progress towards achieving certification. Recent achievements include the installation of LED lights and bike racks. We are studying options to reduce the carbon footprint of the heating system.
Everyone is welcome to join Creation Matters. We meet regularly, every two weeks by Zoom and in-person several times per year. We hold a low-carbon potluck dinner in the fall. For the past several years, we have celebrated the seasons by convening workshops on bike maintenance and jelly-making. To join send an email to wknuttle@gmail.com.

Previous Events
Earth Day Celebration and Blessing of the Bicycles
On Sunday, April 26, St. Matthew’s will observe Earth Day at the 10:30 Family Service. One of the ways in which we celebrate our stewardship of the earth is by lowering our transportation carbon footprint. Bring your bicycles, bus passes, walking shoes, scooters and inline skates and join us for the “Blessing of the Bicycles”.
At the Souper Sunday lunch following the service, children will have the opportunity to fill small containers with suitable materials that birds can use to help build their nests. The children can then take these home, put them in places accessible to their local birds and watch the action.
